Name and Location
Mall of Africa project, Gauteng, South Africa.

Client
Attacq (80%) and Atterbury Property Holdings (20%).

Project Description
The Mall of Africa will be the largest retail development on the African continent to be developed in a single phase and will occupy “the heart” of the mixed-use Waterfall City development.

The “super-regional” shopping centre will offer 130 000 m2 of retail space. Confirmed tenants include local and international brands such as Woolworths, Edgars, Game, H&M and Checkers Hyper.

The mall’s top level will boast a 4 500 m2 undulating steel and glass roof with curved bulkheads that allow for daylight entry, as well as a “luxury mall” section that will offer high-end brands and a champagne bar.

At the centre of the mall, the interior will open onto an exterior restaurant area and the green lung of the Water City development – a large park that extends towards the bottom of the mixed-use development. The mall will also have 6 500 parking bays.

Value
R4.9-billion.

Duration
The mall is expected to begin trading in April 2016.

Latest Developments
Attacq’s Mall of Africa is fully tenanted and remains on track to open on April 28, which the company considers a strategic milestone.

The company’s conservative estimates have indicated that about 15-million people a year will visit the mall.

Key Contracts and Suppliers
None stated.
