MAHLE South Africa recently hosted a delegation that included Nicole Hoffmeister-Kraut, Minister of Economic Affairs, Labour and Tourism from the German State of Baden-Württemberg, Prof Dr Eric Schweikert and 26 members of the Baden-Württemberg State Government’s Economic Affairs committee.

Managing Director, Alex Holmes, highlighted the key role that Durban’s MAHLE plant plays in the supply of Aluminium Seamwelded Tubes & Turbulators to the MAHLE group coupled with MAHLE South Africa’s contribution in providing Global Customers with local supply of automotive components. A guided tour of the plant provided the guests with a great insight into the South African subsidiary of the Stuttgart company.

Employment equity and diversity, Internal Combustion Engine versus Electric Vehicle powertrain (in particular the need for European Union legislation to focus on EU requirements, whilst the African environmental landscape might require alternative African appropriate solutions), along with the Political Landscape in South Africa formed part of the discussions that were held.

The visiting delegation took time to visit MAHLE South Africa’s flagship Corporate Social Initiative as presented by the Science2Go team and were delighted with the innovations in promoting an interest in Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths.

“The delegation was pleased with the informative visit,” said Alex Holmes, Managing Director MAHLE South Africa, “these visits are invaluable in terms of informing the rest of the world of our capabilities.”
