Company Announcement - Logistics software provider Dovetail Business Solutions in conjunction with logistics and transport services provider Baker SA Limited hosted a Southern African round table discussion with the Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals on September 16, 2014.

The discussion focused on the success that can be achieved through collaborative partnership of logistics services companies, focusing on IT integration, skills development, network design, advanced fleet configurations and MHE enhancement in the logistics industry.

Supply Chain Transformation
The transformation improved service delivery by appointing a single logistics service provider to service the networks’ end-clients, which included the implementation of Dovetail’s warehouse management systemsoftware into its supply chain.

The redesigned network took the facilities count from ten warehouses to two, enabling the provision of real-time cross dock solutions on a national basis.

Delivery efficiencies were improved and were realised through the implementation of improved product handling techniques, upskilled material handling equipment, and an up-skilled workforce, which was achieved through training programs such as driver training, forklift instructor training and modules training.

Setting the Technology Benchmark
One of the project highlights was the introduction of a global technology into the local market; Bakers SA was the first company to use the Intelligent Clamp in South Africa in August 2009.

The Round Table Discussion ended with a site visit to Baker’s warehouse in which the company demonstrated the operational side of handling its clients product and what role its WMS plays in ensuring efficiency.

More than 40 logistics industry stakeholders attended the round table discussion along with students from the University of Johannesburg.
In November, Dovetail will be hosting another CSCMP round table discussion in which it will talk about the key highlights of its book: The Book on Logistics Software and stimulate debate regarding logistics issues in the industry.
