A total of 540 t of steel will be used in the manufacture of the crane components, the largest being 24-m long, 2-m tall and 1,8-m wide.
The new ship-to-shore cranes will increase Durban harbour’s container handling efficiency and capability.
Durban is currently considered Africa’s busiest port and handled over 1,3-million containers during 2002.
