Name of the Project
Linkou thermal power plant ammonia cofiring project.

Location
Linkou district, New Taipei, in Taiwan.

Project Owner/s
Taiwanese State-owned firm Taiwan Power Company (TPC).

Project Description
Linkou thermal power plant comprises three supercritical coal-fired boilers and steam turbines, with a total throughput of 2 400 MW.

The project will study the introduction of ammonia cofiring at the plant. The first phase of the project, until 2025, will be to conduct a basic study for 5% ammonia cofiring to reduce carbon dioxide emissions.

This will include the supply of ammonia burners and other equipment, as well as systems necessary for ammonia cofiring.

A study will also be conducted on building a supply chain to secure a stable supply of clean fuel ammonia.

The second phase of the project from 2026 will involve using one of the units at Linkou for verification, with the aim of 5% ammonia cofiring from 2028 to 2030, raising the cofiring ratio to 20% and implementing the system for the plant’s other units.
