Malawi’s Lilongwe Water Board is inviting bids from eligible international bidders to carry out multimillion-dollar construction works for Water Treatment Plant 2 and associated works.

The water board says in a statement that the assignment will be financed by the World Bank’s International Development Association (IDA) as part of the second phase of Malawi’s National Water Development Programme.

The works will include construction of a 5 520 m3 reinforced-concrete raw water storage tank, a 12.5 m3 reinforced-concrete mixing basin, a 241 m3 reinforced-concrete flocculation basin, a 248 m3 reinforced-concrete sedimentation tank with an inclined plates settler system, and 8 250 m3 reinforced- concrete rapid sand filters.

The assignment will also involve con- struction of auxiliary structures, such as prefabricated steel grate and guarding rails, electrical and mechanical works and associated works for the back-wash pumpstations and dosing systems, and construction of auxil- iary structures and buildings, complete with sanitary facilities, fences, drainage, and access roads and car parks.

Expressions of Interest

In a related development, the water board has invited expressions of interest for a detailed design for rehabilitation and raising of Kamuzu Dam 1 and the dam evaluation of Kamuzu Dam 2.

The bidding deadlines for the two assignments were the end of last month and earlier this month respectively.
