Chicago Pneumatic introduced two new products in April 2014 - the RX range of light, medium and heavy rig-mounted hydraulic breakers for construction and demolition as well as two improved CPLT light tower models for portable autonomous site lighting. A leading global industrial manufacturer of construction and mining equipment since 1901, Chicago Pneumatic’s industrial and pneumatic hand tools have been operating in the local market for over 100 years, finding wide acceptance in the mining sector in particular.

In South and southern Africa, the Chicago Pneumatic range of construction and mining equipment is only available through dealers. “Dealers are therefore considered as the heartbeat of Chicago Pneumatic,” explains Jacques van der Westhuizen, Business Development Manager for Chicago Pneumatic in South Africa. “With the recent  launch of our new hydraulic breakers and light towers and with more new products in the launch pipeline, it is our objective to bring the complete Chicago Pneumatic product range and support services to our customers, regardless of how remote their location. To this end we are establishing a solid country wide dealer network, selecting only discerning dealers who not only have the necessary infrastructure but who are as enthusiastic as we are about the Chicago Pneumatic product line-up.”

”We appointed United Sales and Service as an official Chicago Pneumatic dealer in April 2014,” continues Van der Westhuizen. ”The company’s passion for Chicago Pneumatic equipment was apparent when they sold the first two hydraulic rig-mounted breakers (RX46) to a customer in Zambia in March. They have also sold (11x CPLT – M10) light towers. Based in Nelspriut (Mapumalanga), USS has a wide regional footprint which includes Nelspruit, Zambia as well as the DRC. Chicago Pneumatic’s new RX line of rig-mounted light, medium and heavy hydraulic breakers fit any breaking application from day-to-day construction with the lighter models to tougher quarrying applications with the larger breakers. The light and medium rig-mounted breaker range comprises nine models designed to match various applications in general construction, light to medium demolition, renovation and trenching.

With a service weight of 94 kg, the RX 2 breaker fits carrier classes with weights ranging from 1 to 3 tons. At the top end of the range, the RX 22, with a service weight of 1,500 kg, is ideal for carriers in the 17 to 28 tons weight class. The five new heavy breakers, the RX 26, RX 30, RX 38, RX 46 and RX 54 with service weights from 1,800 kg to 4,200 kg, fit carriers with weights from 20 to 70 tons and are ideal for heavy demolition, rock excavation and quarry applications. “RX hydraulic breakers have been designed to keep performance to a maximum and operational costs to a minimum,” says Van der Westhuizen. All features built into the RX breakers focus on reliability, easy maintenance and efficient performance. The units are engineered with fewer components and working parts, “which reduces maintenance,” adds Van der Westhuizen. The state-of-the art mono block two-in-one design with a combined cylinder and tool holder eliminates the need for side bolts.

The Power Boost is designed to achieve greater breaking performance in tough applications without requiring additional hydraulic input. The enhanced percussive performance is achieved by reusing the recoil energy. The RX line also features advanced noise and vibration damping technology; with the RX recoil absorbing system and insulated breaker boxes, the RX series is one of the quietest breakers on the market. The PowerControl Plus valve enables the operator to adjust the operation mode of the breaker to the application in the field without opening the hydraulic circuit.

Additional design features and improvements include an established hybrid gas/oil technology, field replaceable cylinder sleeve for decreased service times, elimination of a high pressure accumulator to increase reliability, internal control valve for increased efficiency and reinforced breaker box design with rock claws. Chicago Pneumatic’s two new arrivals in the portable lighting industry, the CPLT M12 and CPLT H5 light towers with manual and hydraulic masts respectively, build on the success of the existing CPLT M10 light tower renowned for delivering highly reliable, easy-to-use and manoeuverable autonomous portable site lighting solutions.

The new CPLT range, driven by the powerful Kubota engine, suits a variety of applications in  construction, mining and oil & gas industries as well as public sectors, sporting events, entertainment and emergency situations. Both light towers have been carefully designed to be extremely easy to position in any desired location to obtain optimal work area lighting while the metal halide lamp technology delivers long periods of autonomous operation. The four energy-efficient, long-lasting 1000W metal halide lamps is capable of generating 440,000 lumens of lighting power.

In order to ensure enhanced control and protection, the light towers are equipped with a metallic enclosure with wide service doors and an electrical cubicle, a vertically extendable mast that rotates 360 degrees to illuminate large areas, stabilisation legs, an on-road undercarriage and heavy-duty construction for demanding environments.

The CPLT M12 features a simple-to-deploy manual mast that extends up to a maximum height of 9.45m. Available in 50 Hz and 60 Hz versions, this new model is capable of delivering up to 60-70 hours of autonomous use at 4kW. With a MIG-welded uni-body trailer, a galvanized steel canopy with oven-baked powder coating to resist corrosion, the light tower is able to cope with rough worksite conditions.

The fully EU regulations-compliant CPLT H5 features a hydraulic vertical mast for quick set up as well as a unique digital control panel (LC 1003) especially developed with lamp sequencing, timer and fuel-saving features for increased efficiency, reliability and simplified operation and maintenance.
