JOHANNESBURG (miningweekly.com) – Mineral exploration and development company Kibo Mining has completed the technical work for Phase 1, Stage 1 of the definitive mining feasibility study (DMFS) for its Rukwa coal-to-power project (RCPP), in Tanzania, ahead of schedule.

The company was now awaiting the final technical report, which was expected to be ready by the end of November.

“The positive results obtained from the work done on the Rukwa DMFS to date have prompted the company to immediately proceed with the prefeasibility study (PFS) for the 300 MW coal-fired power plant included in the RCPP,” the group said in a statement on Tuesday.

The PFS on the power plant would be conducted in two phases, with Phase 1 expected to be completed by the end of November, allowing the company to deliver a comprehensive, fully integrated, independent scoping study for the RCPP by early December.

“The rapid progress we have made and the strongly positive results from the feasibility work on the RCPP to date, have substantially enhanced the company’s    ability to finalise a robust and commercially sound transaction with a suitable development partner,” commented CEO Louis Coetzee.
