JOHANNESBURG (miningweekly.com) – Corredor Logistico Integrado de Nacala (CLIN) has awarded Kentz Engineers and Constructors the $38-million contract to build the Nacala corridor project, in northern Mozambique.

CLIN is a joint venture between Vale Moçambique and Mozambique’s port and railways authority, Portos e Caminhos de Ferro de Moçambique.

The 912 km railway corridor project would provide a logistics solution for the transportation of coal mined at Moatize, in the Tete province, to the maritime terminal in Nacala.

Kentz Engineers and Constructors had been contracted to undertake the structural, mechanical, electrical and instrumentation erection and to provide commissioning assistance required to build the main stockyard equipment.

It would also erect 13 km of interconnecting belt conveyors, as well as assemble and install about 14 000 t of equipment, including tipplers, stackers, reclaimers and shiploaders.

The contract was scheduled for completion in November next year.

“With the award of this important project, Kentz is delighted to continue the relationship with Vale in Mozambique,” Kentz regional MD for Africa Carl Dyer said in a statement.
