- ECE recognised for high-calibre ergonomic design
- ERE praised for combining manoeuvrability with comfort
- Design as an expression of quality and innovativeness
The German Design Council has announced the selection of the Jungheinrich ECE horizontal order picker and the ERE electric pedestrian pallet truck for the coveted German Design Awards in the Transportation category. Out of more than 5,000 competing entries, the international experts on the German Design Council honoured the two Jungheinrich vehicles for their trailblazing qualities in the international design-scape.
The ECE horizontal order picker was recognised by the jury for its ergonomic design, which combines robust construction with powerful performance. The oft-copied design of the ECE points to how Jungheinrich is setting new standards in this vehicle category. The design experts on the Council commended the ease of access to all ECE operating elements and accessories, translating into an ergonomic vehicle workplace. And the patented jetPILOT multi-function steering wheel, which supports the intuitive, car-inspired operation of the ECE, was an added factor.
The electric pedestrian-controlled ERE stacker was selected for its combination of compact manoeuvrability with the comfort of a ride-on device. The truck was designed as a modular system, allowing for tailored adaptation and optimization to the customer and application. In addition to higher productivity, ergonomic aspects also played a role in the Council's decision, in particular in terms of meeting individual driver requirements - a goal which is aided by several different stand-on platform options combined with innovative operating concepts. Numerous additional options and the robust design of the vehicles make work easier, while increasing driver and vehicle safety and reducing the amount of human vibrations. In short: the ERE performs its tasks more efficiently than any other stacker in its class.
Michael Niebuhr, Head of Industrial Design at the Jungheinrich Group, explains: "For us, design is about more than mere product appearance. It is the face of our company, a key component of our success and a visual expression of quality and innovation. In 2016, Jungheinrich redefined the design concept of our vehicles in order to create a distinctive product design for the future. The striking new design is intended to make the technical and ergonomic quality of our products visible. With its combination of dynamism and robustness, it stands for a competent appearance that creates trust and inspires desire."
The German Design Award is the international premium distinction of the German Design Council. Its aim is to discover, showcase and honour unique design trends. This is why top-class submissions from product and communication design are awarded prizes every year, all of them trailblazing in their own way in the international design-scape. Launched in 2012, the German Design Award is one of the most highly recognised design competitions worldwide, enjoying a reputation far beyond specialist circles.
The German Design Award is issued by the German Design Council - Germany's leading authority on branding and design. Established as a foundation in 1953 on the initiative of the German Federal Parliament, the Council supports business in achieving brand value through the vehicle of design. This makes the German Design Council one of the world's leading competence centres for communication and brand management in the area of design. Apart from industry associations and institutions, the foundation's exclusive network of members includes in particular proprietors and brand directors from many big-name corporations.
The official presentation ceremony for the German Design Awards takes place on February 9th, 2018 at Ambiente - the world's leading consumer goods exhibition, in Frankfurt, Germany.
