Name of the Project
Johan Castberg oilfield development.

Location
The project is situated about 100 km north of the Snøhvit field, in the Barents Sea, off the coast of Norway.

Client
The project is a partnership between Statoil (operator 50%), Eni (30%) and Petoro (20%).

Project Description
Johan Castberg is the biggest subsea field under development in the world today, and comprises three oil discoveries – Skrugard, Havis and Drivis – with volumes of 400-million to 650-million barrels of oil.

The field development concept includes a floating production storage and offloading (FPSO) vessel and extensive subsea development, with 30 wells, ten subsea templates and two satellite structures.

Potential Job Creation
Jobs generated nationwide during the development are estimated at slightly less than 47 000 person-years.

Value
Capital expenditures for Johan Castberg are estimated at about NKr49-billion.

Duration
First oil is scheduled for 2022.

Latest Developments
Kværner was awarded the contract for the Johan Castberg topsides in February this year and includes the construction and installation of the topside structure for the FPSO.

The contract has a total value of about NKr3.8-billion. The development work will be undertaken at several yards along the Norwegian coast.

Key Contracts and Suppliers
Aker Solutions (subsea system and engineering and procurement management contracts), SBM Offshore (turret mooring system on FPSO) and Kværner (topsides).
