United Aluminum Company of Japan has placed an order with SMS Siemag, Germany, www.sms-siemag.com to supply a Dry Strip system (DS system) for an existing aluminum cold rolling mill in the Nagoya works.
The DS system will be installed in the exit section of the existing cold mill. The DS system has the task of removing rolling oil from the top and bottom strip surfaces. In this way, stains on the strip surface are prevented and the quality is enhanced. In addition, UACJ avoids the efforts of cleaning the strip at a later process stage, e.g. during the preparation for strip coating. The DS system works with a blower instead of compressed air, substantially reducing the running costs and resulting in a fast payback of the investment costs. The DS system will start operating in summer 2014 after a short shutdown period required for equipment modifications.
SMS Siemag can draw on abundant experience in building DS systems. In recent years, it and has installed well over 70 of these systems in cold rolling mills. SMS Siemag AG is a company of the SMS group which, under the roof of the SMS Holding GmbH, consists of a group of global players in machinery and plant construction in steel and nonferrous metals processing. Its workforce of more than 13,500 employees generates sales worldwide totaling EUR 3.3 billion.
