JSE-listed mobile company Vodacom has appointed former deputy Finance Minister Jabu Moleketi to its board.
The company said that the appointment of Moleketi was in line with the regulatory agreement between the Vodafone group and the South African government, entered into in November.
During Vodacom’s listing, fixed-line service provider Telkom unbundled its remaining 35% share interest in Vodacom to its shareholders. The free float would be 21%, with government and the Public Investment Corporation retaining the 14% balance.
Government was then given the opportunity to nominate one director to the group's board for as long as it retained not less than 10% of the issued shares.
Moleketi was currently the chairperson of Brait SA, a nonexecutive director of Nedbank and a member of the Local Organising Committee FIFA World Cup 2010.
He has a post-graduate diploma in economic principles, a masters science degree in financial economics and completed an advanced management programme at Harvard Business School.
