Interbuild Africa 2016, the continent’s largest building services and construction exhibition, will predominantly target small and medium-sized building contractor companies, as this market remains fairly resilient, says events organiser Specialised Exhibitions Montgomery portfolio director Joshua Low.

Speaking at the media and exhibitor briefing for Interbuild Africa in Boksburg, last month, Low noted that, while the show would still cater for larger construction companies, some of the construction majors had struggled in the past year.

Consequently, the organisers believe that market growth will stem from the smaller industry players.

Based on research conducted by the organisers, Low noted that more property extensions were undertaken in residential developments, indicating a buoyant market.

Further, the exhibition, which will run from August 17 to 20 at the Nasrec Expo Centre, in Johannesburg, will introduce new profiles to support the upcoming markets, such as Sani’ter, Woodworld South Africa and the Occupational Health and Safety Pavilion.

Sani’ter would address water and sanitation issues, as well as showcase water, sanitation and filtration technologies, Low said, pointing out South Africa’s current water challenges.

The Department of Water and Sanitation (DWS) reported last month that dam levels in all provinces continued to steadily decline every week, with the overall average dam levels dropping 0.4 percentage points, from 53.8% at the beginning of June to 53.4% by June 6,

compared with to the 76.2% capacity of dams recorded in the comparative week last year, Engineering News reported last month.

Further, Woodworld South Africa, which will focus on the woodworking and forestry industry, is a joint venture between Specialised Exhibitions Montgomery and Hannover Fairs International, of Hanover, Germany, which organises LIGNA, the largest woodworking show in the world. Woodworld South Africa will launch a dedicated exhibition during the 2018 edition of Interbuild Africa, but Interbuild Africa 2016 will include a co-located component of the exhibition.

Meanwhile, with increasing focus on the new construction health and safety regulations, there was a need for the Occupational Health and Safety, or A-OSH Pavilion, showcasing occupation health and safety products, equipment and services.

Other co-located shows will include Glassexpo, Plumdrain, Hardex Africa, a hardware exhibition, and Woodpro. Additionally, EcoAfribuild, which covers the next generation of building and infrastructure, will focus on energy efficient, resource efficient and environmentally responsible building design, materials and energy services.

Low highlighted the potential for this market, citing the demand for renewable energy and sustainable building products, new legislation in waste management, the focus on carbon emissions and reliable electricity supply as key factors driving the market.

He concluded that Interbuild Africa 2016 was expecting more than 300 exhibitors from 14 countries and more than 7 000 visitors.
