Hyundai Steel Co. (Hyundai), located in Seoul, Republic of South Korea, has awarded SMS Mevac www.sms-mevac.com , Germany, a contract for the supply of a fast vessel exchange RH (Ruhrstahl Heraeus) unit for its secondary-metallurgy facilities in Dangjin. Commissioning of the RH plant is scheduled for the second half of 2015.
The RH plant will be designed to treat liquid steel in nominal heat sizes of 155 tons and will include a hydraulically actuated ladle lifting system, a burner lance and a vacuum alloying system for the addition of ferroalloys under low pressure conditions. The vacuum will be generated by means of a state-of-the-art four-stage steam-ejector vacuum pump system with advanced pressure regulation for optimized process control. The fast vessel exchange RH plant will be part of the existing electric steelmaking shop. After treatment in the RH plant, the liquid steel will be cast into blooms on a continuous casting machine. The blooms will be used mainly for the production of automotive parts.
The scope of supply includes the major parts of basic data, parts of the basic and detail engineering, the delivery of key components (e.g. burner lance, hydraulic system, etc., whereas the existing steam- ejector vacuum pump system will be modified) as well as supervision of installation and commissioning.
