Name of the Project
HyEnergy green hydrogen development.

Location
Gascoyne region of Western Australia.

Project Owner/s
Province Resources and Total Eren.

Project Description
A scoping study has confirmed the technical feasibility for an integrated green energy production project using renewable energy generated from the identified Gascoyne resource.

The study proposes a two-phase development.

The first phase involves the construction and operation of 4 GW of upstream power generation using an optimised mix of wind turbines and solar arrays, transmission infrastructure and downstream hydrogen production facilities that will initially involve 2.6 GW of electrolysers with compression and storage.

Phase 1 is also intended to include all common infrastructure and downstream hydrogen processing facilities such as ammonia production, liquefaction, compression, storage and pipeline injection.

Downstream hydrogen processing facilities will be determined during the PFS and will be optimised to suit economic market demand for the products.

Phase 2 proposes the expansion of the facility by an additional 4 GW of renewable-energy generation to support an additional 2.6 GW of hydrogen electrolysers. Additional downstream hydrogen processing facilities will be included, again reflecting market demand for the products in the future.

Latest Developments
Province Resources has appointed services firm GHD to undertake a prefeasibility study (PFS) for the downstream component of its HyEnergy hydrogen project, after taking back full ownership of the project.

A term sheet, signed between Province and Total Eren on the development of the project, has expired without the companies’ signing a binding term sheet, as the two firms are not fully aligned on the objectives of the project.

The PFS scope will include water production, electrolysis, air separation for nitrogen production, ammonia synthesis and product storage, loading and export. It will also cover construction-phase support facilities, including an accommodation camp, and marine import facilities. Marine import infrastructure includes a barge landing and a materials offloading facility.

The downstream PFS is expected to be completed in the third quarter of this year, while the award of the upstream PFS is expected soon.

Key Contracts, Suppliers and Consultants
