The Department of Human Settlements has called on the public to nominate candidates to serve on the Council for the Social Housing Regulatory Authority (SHRA).
Nominations close at the end of the month.
An appointed council member will hold office for a period not exceeding three years and may be eligible for reappointment but may not serve for more than two terms consecutively.
The SHRA is established under the Social Housing Act, with the mandate to regulate the social housing sector, advise the Minister on matters pertaining to social housing and intervene in the day-to-day manage-ment of social housing institutions where inspections have identified maladministration.
Nominees will assist the department to deliver on its mandate subject to the provisions of the Act, which, besides others, include promoting the development and awareness of social housing; providing advice and support to the department in its development of policy for the social housing sector; and facilitating national social housing programmes.
Nominees should have expertise and substantial experience in the fields of social and rental housing, risk management, financial management, project management, policy development, legal issues, governance compliance and entrepreneurship.
