Project Description
The Helsinki city rail loop is a 7.8 km commuter rail loop to be built underneath the Helsinki city centre.
The loop-shaped track will serve the local traffic in the capital region. It is designed to start at Pasila and move through a tunnel underneath Töölö, Helsinki city centre and Hakaniemi, returning to Pasila.
Three stations will be built along the railway: Hakaniemi, Helsinki City Centre and Töölö.

The estimated total cost of the project is €740-million.
Duration
If a Parliamentary decision is made in 2014, the excavation of railway tunnels and stations will start in the city centre in 2015 or 2016.
Latest Developments
The project is currently in the planning stage.
The Finnish Parliament is expected make the final decision on building the city rail loop, after which more detailed planning will begin.
Pöyry has received several assignments concerning the engineering of the Helsinki city rail loop. The company will perform bedrock surveys on the loop as part of a consortium on the eastern, Hakaniemi, side.
Pöyry’s water maintenance network designers will design the pipe and cable transfers required by the city rail loop. The group’s architects are also involved in the design of the Hakaniemi station and its road tunnels.
