Provision and access to quality health is a key part of the National Development Plan. Health has been identified as an important aspect that will help drive growth in the South African economy due to the social effects it will have on the lives of South Africans. 

Currently, the public health care system is estimated to be providing service to around 80% of South Africans. As things stand, the public healthcare system cannot meet the demand that has been placed on it. Some of the aims of NDP is to alleviate this problem at this stage and to offer affordable healthcare through the implementation of the National Health Insurance.

At the 2016 Budget Speech, the Minister of Finance, Pravin Gordhan highlighted the commitment of the State to the health sector. Among the key spending priorities of South Africa are improving health facilities, technology, staff and intervention programmes. The National Treasury has allocated over R168-billion to the health budget: over R88-billion will go towards hospitals and over R28-billion will go towards health infrastructure. The National Treasury stated that this budget is aligned to the vision of the NDP, to help increase the quality and life expectancy of South Africans. However, there is still a great need to create strategic partnerships between business and government to realise this vision by 2030.

The Vision 2030 Summit is a platform for members of the Presidency, key government dignitaries and private sector leaders to share insights, engage and discuss the vision for the National Development Plan. It highlights key aspects around Vision 2030 and how key organisations and individuals can contribute to make it a reality. This year, the Summit is proud to host some of the highest esteemed figures and companies in South African society, including the honourable Jeff Radebe and Matthews Phosa.
