Local and international green building experts would be sharing their knowledge of green building and environmentally sustainable building practices at the Greenbuilding.co.za conference and exhibition, which would be held at the Sandton convention centre on July 7 and July 8 in Johannesburg.

Conference organisers said that the goal of the conference was to look at leading countries, which have paved the green path, learn from their advancements and both apply and modify them to the needs and demands of South Africa.

In a world increasingly focused on energy and resource efficiency, the built environment sector would continually need to find sustainable and practical ‘green’ solutions, which can be applied to all projects and find the balance between environment-friendly, functional and realistic.

Speakers at the event include: Minister of Public Works Geoffrey Doidge; Argentina-based Emilio Ambasz Association CEO and architect Emilio Ambasz; Council for Scientific and Industrial Research group leader Llewllyn van Wyk; Makeka design lab MD Mokeka Makeka; Hong Kong-based Sustainable design director Kam Sing Wong; Sustainability & Innovation international team leader Tiffany Tsui; and German-based Fraunhofer Institute of building physics heat technology head of department Hans Erhorn.

Event partners included the Gauteng Institute for Architecture, the Commonwealth Association of Architects, the Council for the Built Environment and the EnerKey Program of the University of Johannesburg. CPD points would be available for architects, engineers and quantity surveyors.

The event hoped to attract property owners, regulators, built environment professionals, academics and representatives from all facets of the construction industry as delegates, and the exhibition would be open to all consumers for the full two days.
