Name of the Project
Greater Tortue Ahmeyim (GTA) project.

Location
About 120 km offshore in a water depth of 2850 m, off the shore of Mauritania, and in the Saint-Louis Profond block, off the shore of Senegal.

Project Owner/s
A partnership comprising bp, Petrosen, Société Mauritanienne des Hydrocarbures and Kosmos Energy.

Project Description
The GTA project was granted the status of National Project of Strategic Importance by the Presidents of Mauritania and Senegal in July 2021.

Phase 1 of the GTA – currently under development – will export gas to a floating production storage and offloading (FPSO) facility about 40 km offshore, where the gas will be processed and liquids separated. The gas will be exported to floating LNG facilities 10 km offshore. It is expected to produce about 2.3-million tonnes of LNG a year when operations start.

Phase 2 will evaluate a gravity-based structure (GBS) as the basis for the project, with a total capacity of between 2.5-million and three-million tonnes a year.

GBS liquefied natural gas (LNG) developments have a static connection to the seabed.

The concept design will include new wells and subsea equipment, integrating with and expanding on existing GTA infrastructure.

The partnership will consider powering LNG liquefication using electricity to lower operational emissions.

Potential Job Creation
Not stated.

Capital Expenditure
Not stated.

Planned Start/End Date
Phase 2 is expected to be completed in 2027.

Latest Developments
As the first phase of the GTA gas project reaches 90% completion, Mauritania and Senegal are already looking ahead to Phase 2.

The approval of a new design, based on a GBS in February 2023, has provided the groundwork for Phase 2.

Ministry of Petroleum, Energy, and Mines of Mauritania adviser on the upstream sector Lehbib Khroumbaly has indicated that the Ministry plans to start Phase 2 in 2025, with total completion in 2027.

The FPSO from Singapore is expected to arrive in Mauritania’s waters in early July.

Key Contracts, Suppliers and Consultants
None stated.
