Project Description
The 138 MW Gouda wind park was selected by South Africa’s Department of Energy in the second window of the Renewable Energy Independent Power Producer Programme, which closed on March 5, 2012.

The project will be built in the municipality of Drakenstein, in the Western Cape, and will be equipped with forty-six 3 MW Acciona windpower turbines, totalling 138 MW of installed capacity.

The preferred bidders identified during the second-bid window have until December 13 to take their projects to financial closure.

Construction work is expected to start in 2013 for completion in 2014.

Latest Developments
Sarens providing services at the Gouda wind farm project.

These services include port support, road transportation and the supply of cranes to assemble the wind turbine generators.

Various Sarens resources will be utilised during this project, ranging from experienced project managers to dedicated staff, to transfer the two 800Te capacity cranes from hardstand to hardstand.

With regard to road transportation, Sarens has invested in modular trailers and in the latest available extendible trailers from Europe that can carry the next generation turbine blades of up to 67 m in length.
