JOHANNESBURG (miningweekly.com) – Botswana Diamonds and its joint venture partner Alrosa are making good progress with their exploration activities in Botswana, chairperson John Teeling said on Tuesday.

As part of its exploration programme for the second half of the year, Botswana Diamonds and Alrosa drilled 1 290 m on three licences in the Orapa and Gope regions of Botswana.

The PL260 licence contains kimberlites AK 21 and AK 22, with a second diamond recovered from the reanalysis of dense media separation concentrate from large diameter drilling holes at AK 21.

The work on this licence would continue, the company said.

Meanwhile, two holes were drilled at AK 22 on the same licence, with a diamond observed in the core – a “rare” find. The core has been sent to a processing facility in South Africa for microdiamond analysis, which is set to take about three months.
