JOHANNESBURG (miningweekly.com) – Aim-listed Golden Saint Resources is now considering the work that is necessary to establish an inferred resource within its Baja and Tongo exploration licence areas, in Sierra Leone, following an encouraging "inventory report back" from its consultants.

Alluvial specialist Rock Forage undertook a site visit to the two licence areas from November 30 to December 11, to analyse each exploration target critically and develop proposed solutions to develop the required inferred resource level of confidence.

“The estimated provisional inventories of the diamond and gold deposits in our Baja and Tongo licensed areas as reported by Rock Forage are very encouraging,” said Golden Saint executive chairperson David McDonald.

The preliminary mapping undertaken and assumptions detailed in the Rock Forage report revealed estimated provisional alluvial diamond and gold inventories for the Baja exploration targets of 2.1-million tonnes of basal mineralised gravel, which could host between 210 000 ct to 525 000 ct of diamonds and some 63 kg to 105 kg of alluvial gold.

The Tongo exploration target showed estimations of 1.2-million tonnes of basal mineralised gravel, which could host between 120 000 ct to 300 000 ct of diamonds and between 36 kg and 60 kg of alluvial gold.

In addition, the West Africa-focused diamond and gold exploration company’s current alluvial bulk sampling operation on the Sewa river low terrace at Baja site 2 recovered a further six diamonds weighing 2.06 ct, with stones ranging from 0.17 ct to 0.70 ct each.

This brought the total number of diamonds recovered up to December 19 from the 271 t of basal gravels processed to 19 stones weighing 7.81 ct and ranging from 0.17 ct to 1.57 ct.

Further, around 4.07 g of alluvial gold had also been recovered from the 91 t of basal gravels treated at Baja site 2, bringing the total alluvial gold recovered from this bulk sample to 7.97 g up until December 19.

The bulk sampling operation at Baja is expected to continue for another two months.

Rock Forage is planning another site visit from February 9 and will focus on considering the preceding report’s recommendations and implementation where practicable, for the work programmes necessary for Baja and Tongo to attain the inferred resource levels.
