Bearings, seals and lubrication systems supplier SKF has unveiled its Speedi-Sleeve solution, which it says will restore seal-worn shafts quickly and economically.
The company says the device is designed to eliminate the need to dismantle the machinery in which shafts are used, as well as the need for costly regrinding.
Further, SKF says the shaft requires no preparation or pretreatment, making installation fast and straightforward. It asserts that the only tools needed are a mallet, a pair of pliers and the fitting tool supplied with the sleeve.
“Providing a perfect seal, even in the harshest environment, the SKF Speedi-Sleeve fills the gap between standard sleeves and expensive custom shaft treatments, such as diamond coating,” states the company.
The hardened surface provides protection against corrosion and abrasion, with dirt and grit rolling off the surface, rather than digging into it.
In addition, a special version of the sleeve, the SKF Speedi-Sleeve Gold, is also available for use in particularly aggressive environments with high levels of dust.
Meanwhile, the company was recently selected to be a member in both the Dow Jones Sustainability World Index (DJSI World) and the Pan-European sustainability benchmark for the industrial engineering sector.
The DJSI World represents the leading global companies from 57 sectors in the area of sustainability.
“Sustainability is a long-term commitment for SKF and I am very proud that we have been rec- ognised for our efforts, particu- larly in the area of promoting sustainable products,” says SKF president and CEO Tom Johnstone.
