Global and Africa Energy Experts Confirmed to speak at the 11th Africa Energy Indaba

Leading figures and global experts within the African energy sector will convene in Sandton, Johannesburg, South Africa at the 2019 Africa Energy Indaba to debate key issues keeping Africa’s energy leaders awake at night.  Discussions will highlight the energy sector’s innovations in Africa, exploring near and long-term prospects for technological advancements such as blockchain, where decentralisation and digitalisation play a more prominent role within the continent. The emergence of energy trading platforms: Securing energy supply and the importance of African Power Pools, will be acknowledged and prioritised across key players. Regional integration will be a significant theme as well as the role of private sector in innovation and financing of energy initiatives in Africa.

The global engagement effort will be led by Sean Cleary from Strategic Concepts who will be facilitating the opening plenary discussion around regional collaboration and developing the Africa Power Vision. The valued contributors to the discussion at hand will include H.E. Minister Jeff Radebe: Department of Energy, South Africa, Dr Christoph Frei: World Energy Council, H.E. Dr Matar Al Neyadi: Ministry of Energy of the United Arab Emirates, Dr. Ibrahim Mayaki: NEPAD Agency as well as Amandou Hott: African Development Bank Group.

The discussion around disruptive energy business models will be led by Dr Anton Eberhard: University of Cape Town alongside panel members including Prof Dr Musse Mohamud Ahmed: UNIMAS, Dr Rod Crompton: Wits Business School, Wendy Poulton: Eskom and Eng Abel Tella: APUA. The dialogue will feature disruptive energy business models and risks, underscoring the associated opportunities and dangers the African energy sector faces. 

To showcase Africa’s renewable energy potential, Peter Robinson: Economic Consulting Associates alongside Kuda Ndhlukula: SACREEE, Wisdom Togobo: Ministry of Energy, Ghana, Cheik Bedda: African Union and Selestino Babungi:  UMEME, will communicate the intricacies pertaining to IPP investments and what the latest developments for IPPs in Africa are.

Other key issues that cause energy leaders to stay awake at night and to be discussed by even more energy luminaries at the Africa Energy Indaba conference include:

·         Understanding the potential of energy storage and electric vehicles;

·         Delving into the future of the African energy sector, exploring the potential game-changers facing the continent;

·         Exploring the impact of digitalisation and the role of Industry 4.0 in the African energy sector;

·         Exploring funding solutions to accelerate Africa’s energy sector growth and development;

·         Hosting an in-depth discussion pertaining to regional collaboration and developing the African gas industry;

·         Steering a dialogue focused on Accelerated Energy Access across the Continent;

·         Facilitating discussions around Micro, Mini and Off-grid solutions for Africa; and

·         Securing energy supply and the importance of African Power Pools is a pertinent topic among energy industry players.

All these influential industry experts speaking to the most pertinent industry issues are set to ensure that the 2019 Africa Energy Indaba will be one packed with invaluable insights and opinions that are sure to shape the future of Africa’s energy landscape.
