Gibson Bay Wind Farm.

Location
The project is located in the Kouga municipality of the Eastern Cape, in South Africa.

Client
Enel Green Power RSA (EGP RSA), a subsidiary of Enel.

Project Description
The 111 MW Gibson Bay Wind Farm is capable of generating about 420 GWh/y, equivalent to the yearly consumption needs of about 131 000 South African households, while avoiding the emission of more than 383 000 t/y of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere.

The wind farm comprises 37 turbines with a capacity of 3 MW each.

The wind farm is supported by a 20-year power supply agreement with South African utility Eskom as part of the Renewable Energy Independent Power Producer Procurement Programme tender promoted by the South African government, which awarded the project to the Enel Group.

In March 2015, EGP RSA signed a loan agreement for about €160-million to finance the development of the wind farm.

Construction of the wind farm started in April 2015, with operations starting in the first half of 2017.
