The board and board advisers of the Gautrain Management Agency (GMA) have been reshuffled as the next three-year term, effective January 1, gets under way.

Gauteng MEC for Roads and Transport Dr Ismail Vadi on Tuesday announced the reappointment of four GMA board members and the CEO to maintain continuity.

Motseoa Alix-Mary Lugemwa and Doris Dondur were appointed chairperson and deputy chairperson respectively, while Jack van der Merwe would continue in his position as CEO.

This would be Lugemwa’s second term as a GMA board member.

Mzolisi Nkumanda and Professor Wellington Thwala were also reappointed to the board.

New board members included Bolokang Lengane, Sebina Hlapolosa, Unathi Mntoninthsi and Satish Roopa, succeeding former chairperson Abel Mawela and former board members Donovan Nadison and Mogopodi Mokoena.

The new board advisers, tasked with advising the board with reference to the views, interests and policies of their respective organisations, comprised the Gauteng Provincial Treasury’s Tryphina Mokele, the National Department of Transport’s Jan-David de Villiers and the Gauteng Department of Roads and Transport’s Tshidiso Molukanele.

Lugemwa reiterated the GMA’s commitment to sound corporate governance principles, confirming that the agency would primarily be guided by accepted corporate governance practices and the Protocol on Corporate Governance in the Public Sector.

“These practices seek to ensure that the GMA’s mandate is fulfilled with due consideration to responsible decision-making, accountability, effective and ethical leadership, as well as fairness and transparency while monitoring performance and compliance with statutory requirements,” she said.

Dondur added that the establishment of the new board presented an opportunity to review and enhance GMA’s corporate governance and compliance practices and set a “true leadership tone”.
