The Gauteng Department of Education announced that online registration for the 2017 school year will begin on Monday, as part of the department’s effort to plan ahead in the dynamic province.

The online registration was only applicable to grades one and eight.

Gauteng Education spokesperson Oupa Bodibe said the department wanted to ensure it planned properly to ensure that by the end of October it knew how many learners would be allocated in classes and schools for the forthcoming year.

Bodibe said the early registration would also assist the department in mobilising resources such as teachers, infrastructure and textbooks to ensure that learning resumed on the first day of school.

Parents who already have children in schools, as well as those moving their children to different schools should confirm their details with the relevant schools.

“From today parents may use the online registration and load their ID numbers, physical addresses and the name and ID number of the child.
The normal registration process would begin between April 19 to 30,” said Bodibe.

The department also hoped to reduce late registrations by beginning the early registration process. Bodibe added that the department would issue information about late registrations in September.

He said the department was building new schools and it provided temporary classrooms in severe cases of overcrowding.

By using online registration parents had a choice to issue their residential or work addresses or choose a school of their choice. In cases where parents would be selecting their school of choice they would be on a waiting list as opposed to using their respective feeder area addresses.

Bodipe appealed to all parents to register on time.

Applicants were encouraged to register online at www.gdeadmissions.gov.za.
