The project will be located on the mining lease for Waratah Coal’s Galilee coal project, in Queensland, Australia.

Project Description
The proposed project entails the construction of a 700 MW high-efficiency, low emission ultra-supercritical coal-fired power station.

The power station will be developed as a contingent component of the Galilee coal project, which will comprise two opencut and four underground mines, and produce 40-million tonnes a year of high-quality thermal coal for export markets.

The project is estimated at $1.54-billion.

Duration
The construction of the power station is planned to start in June 2020 and will have a build period of three years for the first unit, with the second unit being commissioned six months later.

The commissioning and operation of the power station is expected to be ready to provide power for the Galilee coal project in December 2023, allowing the coal project to deliver first coal in the first quarter of 2024.

Latest Developments
Waratah Coal is seeking an amendment to its draft environmental authority to include the 700 MW power station and associated transmission lines, coal handling, ash containment and water storage facilities.
