Company Announcement - More than 100 youngsters from the Tsogo Sun Moves for Life Chess programme had their chance to rub shoulders with chess greats at the prestigious Kasparov Chess Foundation (KCF) Africa’s Chess Millionaires Festival at Montecasino recently, when the precinct hosted them in their own Development Tournament.
Tsogo Sun Moves for Life Chess focuses on using chess to improve maths and science results as well as to stimulate strategic thinking, and is among the government’s top 16 priority sporting codes for inclusion at school level. The partnership between Tsogo Sun and Moves For Life began in in 2013 and reaches more than 22 000 learners, over 500 teachers in 57 schools around the country.
The Development Tournament at Montecasino took place on the last day of the Chess Millionaires Festival and included a blitz tournament, as well as a series of fun chess-related activities and puzzles for the young chess fans. “It has been inspiring to witness the enthusiasm with which our Moves for Life youngsters have embraced chess – and many are excelling to world-class level,” says Shanda Paine, Group CSI Manager for Tsogo Sun. Glenn Joseph, General Manager of Montecasino, agrees, “The Tsogo Sun Moves for Life programme is based on the philosophy of learning through play and this tournament was a wonderful opportunity for us to add to a fun component to the educational value the children receive through the programme.”
