PERTH (miningweekly.com) – Iron-ore major Fortescue Metals has appointed Elizabeth Gaines to the position of CFO, replacing Stephen Pearce, who will join diversified miner Anglo American on January 30.

Gaines will take up the position of CFO from February 6.

Fortescue CEO Nev Power said on Tuesday that an exhaustive global search, including talented internal and external candidates, was conducted to fill the role.

“We are delighted that Gaines will be joining the Fortescue executive team, having been a member of our board, audit and risk management, and finance committees since 2013,” said Power.

Gaines is the former CEO of Helloworld, and prior to this was the COO and CFO for the same company, as well as the CFO for the Stella Group and chief finance and operations director of Entertainment Rights. She is currently a nonexecutive director of Nine Entertainment, NextDC, ImpediMed and 7-Eleven Retail Stores.

“Gaines is a highly experienced CFO, who also brings significant global commercial and operational experience from a range of industry sectors to complement Fortescue’s highly capable finance team,” Power said.

Following her appointment as CFO, Gaines will continue on the Fortescue board as executive director, and will remain a commissioner of Tourism WA, while relinquishing other corporate nonexecutive director positions.
