Former SA Transport Minister in court on charges of fraud and corruption
DURBAN - Former Transport Minister Sibusiso Ndebele has appeared in the Durban Commercial Crimes Court on charges of fraud and corruption.
National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) spokesperson Advocate Luvuyo Mfaku confirmed to African News Agency that Ndebele was released on R10 000 bail on Tuesday morning.
Mfaku refused to divulge the amount of money involved as he didn’t want to “compromise the investigation”.
A provisional indictment has been drawn up, and those details would only be made available to the media once it was made final, he said.
The case against Ndebele was postponed until July 20, 2016, when he will join four co-accused in the Pretoria Regional Court.
Mfaku said Ndebele will join former Transport DG George Mahlalela, as well as Zakhele Thwala, Sibusiso Justin Ncube, and Tebogo Mphuti.
Those four accused appeared in the Pretoria Regional Court on Monday and were also released on R10 000 bail.
They face charges of fraud, corruption, money laundering and contravening the Public Finance Management Act.
Mfaku said three companies are under investigation – MSRD, Brand Partners and Sinosa Construction.
The NPA spokesperson would not confirm reports that Ndebele allegedly received R10-million in kickbacks.
