Adhesive technologies provider Henkel exhibited its latest adhesive products for the filtration industry at this year’s Filtech – the world’s largest filtration event, which was held from October 11 to 13 in Cologne, in Germany.

Adhesive technology plays a key role in the filtration industry and advanced adhesives can have a significant impact on the efficiency and reliability of the filter’s associated systems, says Henkel. Under its Loctite and Technomelt brands, the company offers a range of efficient, tailor-made solutions with applications along the entire process filtration value chain in the form of adhesives, sealants and functional coatings.

Henkel’s Loctite EA 9452 and Technomelt AS 5115 – two high-performance adhesives ideally adapted to the complex requirements of filter systems – were foregrounded at this year’s Filtech event.

The two-part epoxy adhesive Loctite EA 9452 was developed by Henkel in response to the need for shorter cleaning cycles and higher production rates among liquid filtration systems manufacturers serving the water treatment, and food and beverage industries. Henkel notes that, given the increasing global scarcity of water, these manufacturers are constantly faced with the challenge of increasing the reliability and efficiency of their products. At the same time, the cleaning and maintenance costs incurred by filter users need to be kept as low as possible for their processes to remain competitive.

The product is characterised, in particular, by a unique level of acid and alkali resistance, and it, moreover, offers high temperature stability of up to 85 °C during the cleaning cycle. “Now filtration systems can be cleaned at higher temperatures, which means increased efficiency, shorter cleaning cycles and higher production rates,” explains Henkel Europe Filtration business development manager Frank Lenz.

The Technomelt AS 5115 is suitable for a range of applications, including pleating in filters or the manufacture of clean room filters. The product can withstand temperatures of up to 100 °C and is highly resistant to mold and bacteria in line with ISO 846 standards. This results in a corresponding reduction in the amount of cleaning and disinfection work required for components and apparatus.

“Filter manufacturers working with the Technomelt AS 5115 are already well armed for the future in that they can guarantee their customers the peace of mind that comes with truly reliable product quality,” says the company.

Henkel offers integrated solutions along the entire value chain of process filtration – from pretreatment and bonding to the final processing of filters of all kinds. All its products are precisely aligned to the customer-specific requirements of the filter or filtration process in question. Teams of advisers are also available to help solve complex process or product problems and, as a result of the company’s international reach, global product availability and support are guaranteed.
