Seamless industrial and commercial flooring manufacturer Flowcrete Group, a subsidiary of RPM International, seems to be growing from strength-to-strength, having won the RPM 2014 Connections Creating Value Award in December last year for its collaborative efforts with other RPM International members.

RPM International is a multinational holding company with subsidiaries that manufacture and market high-performance coatings, sealants and specialty chemicals, primarily for maintenance and improvement applications.

The RPM 2014 Connections Creating Value accolade recognises the company that has successfully worked with other entities in the RPM family to facilitate mutual growth, intercompany partnerships and cooperative business plans.

Flowcrete – which has a South African arm called Flowcrete SA – is leveraging manufacturing capabilities, local knowledge and management teams to enhance the presence, production capacity and market share of multiple RPM companies in four continents.

Flowcrete Group president Mark Greaves says the expansion strategies that Flowcrete has embarked on worldwide have opened up multiple opportunities for working alongside other RPM businesses towards a common goal.

“This style of working epitomises the entrepreneurial RPM ethos that encourages companies to capitalise on opportunities by pooling talents, capabilities and resources in a manner that benefits all parties.

He adds that, by winning the RPM 2014 Connections Creating Value Award, Flowcrete Group demonstrates the importance that both RPM and Flowcrete place on this synergised approach to business.

Among the many projects recognised by this award is Flowcrete’s work to boost commercial sealants and waterproofing manufacturer Tremco as well as coatings solutions company Carboline’s reach in Asia by having their products manufactured in Flowcrete’s Malaysian manufacturing facility, says Greaves.

This provides several advantages to both companies, as savings are made on shipping, import duty and storage costs. It also increases local stock levels and reduces lead times throughout South-East Asia, he adds.

“To date, this has led to the manufacture of 185 000 gallons of Tremco Asia’s Tremproof 60 system, with additional Tremco products expected to be manufactured locally in Asia over the next 12 months.”

Meanwhile, Flowcrete and chemicals and aggregates producer Euclid Chemical have introduced a range of Euclid Chemical’s products and admixtures to the Indian market, which will be supported by the establishment of a full Euclid manufacturing facility in the country within the next six months.

Further, Euclid Chemical bought new equipment to produce isocrete floor screeds used to produce the chemicals company’s powder products in India. Flowcrete has also shared its regional expertise to develop a strategy and sales force to further Euclid Chemical’s market penetration into India.

In Chile, construction products manufacturer Productos Cave, a Euclid Chemical subsidiary, is collaborating with Flowcrete Americas to launch a hygienic flooring solution, called Flowfresh.

Flowcrete Americas’ Latin American expansion plan involves similar partnerships with construction materials company Viapol, in Brazil and materials company Toxement, in Colombia. It also involves the supply of material for Argentina-based construction materials manufacturer Stoncor.

“Stoncor is Flowcrete’s partner in the Gulf region, where an exchange of formulations, process knowledge and quality control standards has led to Flowcrete’s deckshield traffic deck coatings range being manufactured at Stoncor’s facilities in Dubai and Saudi Arabia over the past three years,” says Greaves, adding that this arrangement has increased margins, reduced lead times and generated cost savings for the production of deckshield in the Middle East.

In the UK, Flowcrete has been collaborating with RPM sister companies in Europe since 2010. This includes manufacturing screed materials on behalf of Tremco UK, an arrangement that reduces costs for both parties. “Further, each business’s technical teams engage in the research and development of products together, which last year led to the launch of a new fast-setting latex.”

Greaves concludes that, going forward, Flowcrete’s symbiotic relationships with other RPM businesses will remain an integral aspect of its continuing expansion into construction markets worldwide.
