PERTH (miningweekly.com) – Australian gold and nickel miner Regis Resources has seen decline in production for the three months to March, as its Garden Well and Rosemont operations, in Western Australia, were impacted on by pit flooding.

During the quarter under review, Regis produced 64 176 oz of gold, compared with 71 991 oz produced in the three months to December.

At the Moolart Well operations, production remained steady at 26 434 oz during the quarter under review, compared with the 26 506 oz produced in the December quarter, while gold production at Garden Well declined to 27 006 oz, compared with the 37 206 oz produced in the previous quarter.

The Garden Well mine was materially impacted by pit flooding in February this year and by the end of the quarter, more than half of the floodwater had been removed from the affected area.

Full mining operations at Garden Well were expected to restart by the end of June.

Despite the Rosemont operation also being affected by floodwaters, the mine produced 10 736 oz of gold during the quarter, compared with the 8 259 oz produced during the three months to December.

The Rosemont mill, like the Garden Well mill, has been able to operate at close to full capacity during the flooding, treating predominantly run-of-mine ore and historical stockpiles.

Meanwhile, Regis also reported on Thursday that it had sold some 66 249 oz gold during the quarter under review, at an average price of A$1 447/oz, which compared with the 73 487 oz sold in the December quarter, at a price of A$1 493/oz.
