Bulk materials handling equipment company Flexicon has increased the output of its tubular cable conveyor range of Flexi-Disc systems with the addition of a 15-cm-diameter system.

The larger-size disc has more than doubled the materials handling capacity of the com- pany’s existing 10-cm-diameter conveyor, which transfers materials, including most beans, cereals, coffees, dried fruits, frozen vegetables, grains, nuts, beans, pet foods, seeds, snack foods, spices, teas and other fragile or friable food products.

The belt now also has the capacity to process bulk chemicals, minerals, prills, chopped fibreglass, microspheres, pellets of all types, tobacco and other fragile products.

The conveyor works by means of a cable-disc assembly that is pulled through the tubing circuit by a drive wheel at one end of the circuit and kept taut by an automatic cable tensioner at the opposite end of the circuit.

The use of low-friction, high-strength polymer discs makes it possible for the con- veyor to slide materials gently, quietly and dust-free through smooth stainless steel tubing. The tubes can be routed horizon- tally, vertically or at any angle, through small holes in walls or ceilings, or over short or long distances.

The system can be configured with single or multiple inlets that are metered or non- metered, and discharges that are valved or open.

All housings and ancillary metallic components are made of 304 or 316 standard stainless steel with continuous welds that are ground and polished to food, pharmaceutical or industrial standards.

In addition to a galvanised cable, discs are available affixed to stainless steel and nylon-encapsulated stainless steel cable for sanitary applications.

Attached to the cable, wet or dry cleaning accessories reduce downtime between changing, while Clean-In-Place accessories allow automated sanitising of the system.

The conveyor is offered as a standalone system in unlimited layouts. The system can be pre-engineered and integrated with upstream and downstream equipment, such as inlet hoppers, bag dump stations, bulk bag dischargers, bulk bag fillers, drum/box/container tippers, weigh batching/blending systems, screeners, filling machines and storage vessels that are manufactured by Flexicon or other manufacturers.

The addition of tubular cable conveyors to Flexicon’s line of pneumatic and flexible screw conveyors allows efficient transfer of most bulk materials and blends from fine powders to large granules that are free and nonfree-flowing, or prone to degradation.
