PERTH (miningweekly.com) – Australian oil and gas major Santos on Friday announced first oil production from the Dua project, offshore Vietnam.

The Dua project is a three-well subsea tie-back to the existing Chim Sao facilities, and was expected to deliver about 8 000 bbl/d of oil for the first 12 months of production.

Santos VP for Asia, Western Australia and the Northern Territory John Anderson said on Friday that sufficient capacity was available at the Chim Sao floating production storage and offloading facility to accommodate the Chim Sao and Dua projects at full production.

Anderson pointed out that first oil from Dua represented the delivery of another project into the company’s expanding Asian portfolio.

“Dua is a high value brownfield addition to Santos’ portfolio and provides a boost to our existing oil production in Vietnam through the Chim Sao facilities.”

Santos holds a 31.875% interest in the Dua project, with partners Premier Oil and PetroVietnam holding the remaining balance.
