Feb global crude steel output up 1.2% y/y

Global crude steel production for February amounted to 123-million tons, up 1.2% on that produced in February 2012, the World Steel Association (worldsteel) revealed on Wednesday.

China’s crude steel production was up 9.8% year-on-year to 61.8-million tons in February, while Japan’s output dropped by 3.4% year-on-year to 8.3-million tons and South Korea’s output fell by 8.5% year-on-year to five-million tons.

Germany produced 3.4-million tons of crude steel in February, a 3.7% year-on-year decrease, while Italy’s crude steel output fell by 15% year-on-year to 2.1-million tons.

France produced 1.3-million tons of crude steel in February, a decrease of 0.8% on February 2012. Spain’s crude steel output also fell by 1.7% year-on-year to 1.2-million tons.

Turkey’s crude steel production for February was down by 3.9% year-on-year to 2.7-million tons.

US crude steel output decreased by 11.8% year-on-year to 6.7-million tons, while Brazil produced 2.6-million tons of crude steel, a year-on-year decrease of 6.2%.
