PERTH (miningweekly.com) – ASX-listed Coronado Global Resources has reported a fatality at its Curragh coal mine, in Queensland.

The miner on Monday said that an employee of contractor Thiess had been fatally injured, with reports suggesting that the worker had become trapped in machinery at the mine.

Operations at the mine have been suspended until investigators permit the resumption, with Coronado noting that the Queensland Police, and the Queensland Mine Inspectorate, as well as other relevant authorities, were conducting investigations.

The Queensland Resources Council has offered condolences, with CEO Ian Macfarlane saying that the tragedy deeply affected everyone who works in and with the resources community.

“Safety is always the resources sector’s number one priority. The industry is working with the Queensland government and unions to ensure an ongoing safety focus to maximise safety across the sector,” he said.
