Name and Location
Falcon Ma’an solar photovoltaic (PV) power project, Jordan.

Client
Falcon Ma’an, comprising Catalyst Private Equity Fund (50%), Seci Energia (12.5%) and Enerray (12.5%) – part of the Italian Maccaferri Industrial Group – and Desert Technologies (25%).

Project Description
The project involves the construction of a 21 MW solar PV power plant in the Ma’an development area, south of the capital Amman.

The direct current power from the solar panels will be sent to an inverter to convert the direct current power into alternate current power, which will be fed into the utility power grid system through the local substation that is currently under construction by Jordan’s National Electric Power Company.

PV plant transformers are needed for the required voltage level of 33 kV at the 132 kV substation.

The converted power will be transported to the national grid through high-voltage transmission lines.

The project is part of the Jordan government’s renewable-energy programme, which aims to increase the renewable-energy contribution to 10% of the country’s generation mix by 2020.

Value
The project is estimated at $50.2-million.
