JOHANNESBURG (miningweekly.com) – Mining group Exxaro has tasked integrated information and communications technology solutions and services provider Datacentrix with rolling out a document management system for plant maintenance.

The mining group, in line with Department of Mineral Resources-outlined statutory requirements, needed to ensure that work instructions for the execution of maintenance tasks were carefully controlled and could only be approved by a competent, specifically appointed person.

The implementation of the Datacentrix Cideon Output Management solution eliminated a cumbersome document management process, while recognising the related documentation needed, including the requisite process policies, plant maintenance orders and associated documents such as three-dimensional drawings.

This process enabled a “more logical and faster collation” of information, said Datacentrix senior account manager: enterprise information management Warren Buss.

The solution enabled Exxaro to ensure that the correct content was within its SAP document management system, which provides secure workflow, roles, approvals and documents access, with little access to the original documentation.

“Prior to the roll-out of the Cideon software solution for SAP product life cycle management, these computer-aided design models and drawings could not be uploaded into the SAP document management system,” Buss explained.
