Enter one of the biggest global student competitions for engineering and business students worldwide

Student finalists with bold ideas will join Schneider Electric’s Global Innovation Summit in Las Vegas

South Africa, Johannesburg, 21 January 2020 – Schneider Electric South Africa is calling on local students to put their skills and ideas to the test in a global competition and stand the chance to win a trip of a lifetime to Las Vegas.

Schneider Go Green, now in its tenth year, is an annual global student contest for two-member teams to find bold ideas and innovative solutions for smarter, more energy-efficient and sustainable cities.

Schneider Electric South Africa is encouraging engineering and business students across the country to pit their world-class creative spirit, their ever-growing technology skills, their environmental wokeness, and their solution-centric thinking against students from over 3,000 universities around the world and submit their winning competition entries – to make a green difference and win big.

The four categories in Schneider Go Green 2020 are ‘Buildings of the Future’, ‘Plants of the Future’, ‘Grids of the Future’ and ‘Sustainability and Access to Energy’ – and the deadline for the application is 29 February 2020.

The stakes for Go Green competitors are high and they have a chance to impact the powering of the digital economy. The eight selected finalist teams will be invited to Las Vegas, Nevada, USA by Schneider Electric to present the case challenge solutions for intelligent energy management that they have worked on with their mentors.  Thereafter the winning team will be given the opportunity to travel to Boston, Massachusetts, to visit Schneider Electric’s offices, network with employees and interact with high level management, and tour MIT and Greentown Labs.

Zanélle Dalglish, Schneider Electric’s Head of Sustainable Development & Academy, Anglophone Africa Cluster, says, “Within a South African context there are many challenges relating to energy efficiency and sustainability, which is why we believe South African students are perfectly poised to bring home top honours in this global competition. We invite our bright young engineering and business students to apply their minds to this challenge and put themselves on the path to a very bright future.”

Teams must be comprised of two students (in at least their second year) studying engineering, business, physics, computer science, mathematics and other sciences. They must be from the same country or region for the duration of the competition and at least one team member must be a woman. The deadline for submissions is the end of February 2020.
