Ewekoro power plant project, Nigeria
Name and Location
Ewekoro power plant project, Ogun state, Nigeria.
Client
Lafarge Nigeria (formerly Lafarge Wapco) is the lead arranger of the deal, which includes the International Finance Corporation (IFC) and Wärtsilä.
IFC, through IFC InfraVentures, its Global Infrastructure Project Development Fund, will provide financial and commercial structuring. Lafarge will manage the project and Wärtsilä will build and manage the power plant.
Project Description
The project will more than triple the output of Nigeria’s Ewekoro power plant, improving access to electricity for about 1.4-million households in the country and supporting economic growth.
The agreement calls for Lafarge Cement to transform Lafarge Nigeria’s existing 90 MW dual-fuel, captive power plant into a 310 MW gas-fired and highly efficient internal combustion engine power plant.
The project involves freeing some of the plant’s existing captive capacity and making it available to the national grid.
It will also build a new 220 MW engine power plant that will be connected to the national grid through a power purchase agreement with the National Bulk Energy Trading Company.
Value
The consortium will invest $400-million.
