Eskom’s power crisis eases
Following weeks of power emergency alerts and some instances of load shedding, State-owned power utility Eskom on Monday said the national grid had stabilised.
The most recent biweekly system status bulletin, released on Monday, forecast an evening peak capacity of 34 959 MW, including energy output from its open cycle gas turbines, to meet demand of 33 706 MW.
However, the utility, which highlighted current planned maintenance of 2 827 MW and unplanned outages of 5 722 MW, again urged citizens to use electricity sparingly as the power system remained tight owing to higher demand in cold weather conditions.
The power utility forecast demand of 33 593 MW on Tuesday, 33 575 MW on Wednesday, 33 365 MW on Thursday, 32 317 MW on Friday, 32 569 MW on Saturday and 32 649 MW on Sunday.
