Eskom announced on Thursday that it would implement stage 2 load-shedding from 17:00 until 22:00 in the evening. The announcement came after Eskom stopped load-shedding at 12:00 and notified users that "as a result of increased electricity demand and power generating units being on maintenance, the power system is expected to be constrained during the evening peak period (17:00 to 21:00)".

"It is important to note that restoration of power takes longer in some areas," Eskom said in a statment.

"In winter the electricity demand peaks in the morning and evening as more electricity is used during these times. "We appeal to all our customers to continue to reduce their electricity usage throughout the day but to be aware of the need to save more during the peak periods from 06:00 to 10:00 and 17:00 to 21:00.

"As the evening temperatures begin to drop, we urge electricity users to consider energy efficient ways of keeping warm. This is particularly important as we are currently experiencing cold weather across the country," Eskom said.
