Eskom  (0.04 MB)

Eskom was ordered by the North Gauteng High Court to remove a set of offending H-Pole structures from a customer's property situated in Beaulieu, Midrand within 30 days from the date of the court order. Eskom has made the necessary arrangements to ensure that it timeously abides by the court decision.

The implication of the removal of the offending H-Pole structures is that the line will be deactivated on 1 November 2013.  While the deactivation of the line is unlikely to cause electricity supply interruptions, it will weaken the area’s supply risk profile. The line that is being removed is the contingency Eskom has in place in case of failure of the main supply line. Eskom is investigating measures to restore the area’s risk profile to acceptable standards as soon as possible.

Eskom has proposed to the customer the installation of a compliant alternative structure, but was unable to proceed with such installation as the resident had rejected its proposal. This matter forms part of the review application pending in the North Gauteng High Court and is to be heard early December 2013.

Eskom is investing in infrastructure upgrade in the Midrand area due to high growth in the area. The upgrades in infrastructure are as a result of high growth in residential development. We appeal to residents and our customers to support this infrastructure upgrade as it will ensure security of supply and support economic growth in the area
