Engineering and construction group SNC-Lavalin was awarded an engineering consultancy and support services contract by Qatar-based company Oryx Gas To Liquids (GTL), a joint venture between petroleum company Qatar Petroleum (51%) and South African energy and chemicals company Sasol (49%) for its GTL complex at Ras Laffan Industrial City, in Qatar, in July.

This five-year contract is with SNC’s local entity, oil and gas solutions provider Qatar Kentz WLL, and is aligned to support Oryx GTL’s long-term sustaining capital plan. The agreement sets out predefined rates for a number of work elements that will be required at the facility, including general engineering, feasibility studies, modelling, drawings and documentation.

“We are delighted to establish this five-year agreement with Oryx GTL, at a time when the industry is looking for continued development of assets. This agreement positions SNC-Lavalin for success in achieving our vision of being an essential trusted partner to our clients, and we can quickly engage on many work fronts required on the project over the coming years,” says SNC-Lavalin oil and gas president Christian Brown.

Founded in 1911, SNC-Lavalin is a leading global engineering and construction group and a major player in the ownership of infrastructure, with offices in over 50 countries. The company provides engineering, procurement and construction and engineering, procurement, construction and management services to clients in a variety of industry sectors, including oil and gas, mining and metallurgy, infrastructure and power. SNC-Lavalin can also combine these services with its financing and operations and maintenance capabilities to provide complete end-to-end project solutions.

In August, Engineering News reported that SNC-Lavalin had also been awarded a mechanical engineering-led framework agreement and associated project management services contract by Sasol, in support of the general maintenance projects at its sub-Saharan Africa sites.

The five-year contract is with SNC-Lavalin’s local entity Kentz and is aligned to support the Sasol maintenance plans. The agreement is based on person-hour rates and unit rates for a number of services and work elements that will be required from SNC-Lavalin’s general engineering services to support the brownfield engineering and execution of maintenance projects.

“We have been supporting Sasol’s flagship refinery in Secunda since the early 1980s and we are delighted to continue our successful relationship through this framework agreement,” says SNC-Lavalin regional executive Stuart Kent.
