Engineered walkways are solid underfoot

The most important factor in flooring is the load-bearing capacity of the product. Structural integrity is key in the design, engineering and manufacture of steel floor grating products.

As an engineered product, the quality of manufactured floor gratings is imperative and contributes to the strength, safety and durability of the product.

The Mentis RS40 40/40 floor grating is manufactured locally by Andrew Mentis and is regarded as one of the most well-known products in the industry.

It is formed through a process of compressive locking of the load bearing flat bars or bearer bars and the round bar transversals to form an exact 40 mm2 pitch with openings of 35.5 mm x 32.4 mm and is designed with specific load-bearing characteristics.

Expanded metal has a wide range of flooring applications, such as catwalks, conveyor and access walkways and platforms. Examples are walkways on large billboards, which are used to ensure safe access to the billboard, as well as maintenance walkways on process plants.

Features of expanded metal walkways include:

  • Lightweight
  • Self-cleaning
  • Non-slip surfaces
  • Interlocks at the joints, with no butt welds
  • Allows for the passage of air and light
  • Durable

The company’s Die-Line product is most often used for incline conveyor walkways. Its lightweight and non-slip characteristics aim to make it easier to erect and offer flexibility in design.

The positive grip-pressed section walkways are designed as complete walkway sections with kick-plates formed as a single unit. The sections are designed for longitudinal spans and have a high strength-to-mass ratio. The use of heavy stringers or separate kick plates have been eliminated, with the aim of making the walkways quicker, easier and safer to erect.
