Once again Engen, South Africa`s number 1 petrol brand, has put the customer first with a range of fast and secure cashless forecourt payment options that brings convenience to motorists and protects their payment safety and security.

In a first for the petroleum industry, Engen has updated its integrated payment solution for faster payments using contactless payment cards. Contactless-enabled bank cards can be used for purchases under R200.

Furthermore, to satisfy customers’ increasing appetite for mobile payment solutions and convenience, Engen has been hard at work modifying its payment architecture to accept mobile payments, says Dumisani Bengu, manager of Engen’s retail business.

“Following the successful launch of the FlickPay proof of concept at the Engen Oranje Convenience Centre in Gardens, Cape Town, it will now be rolled out to other relevant sites,” says Bengu.

FlickPay is a mobile payment app that links to your Visa or Mastercard card and allows you to pay for goods with your smartphone. FlickPay generates a unique code that is then scanned at the till by the consumer. This creates a more secure environment and speeds up the payment process.

Following on from Engen’s strategy of accepting cashless forms of payment, the company has also integrated RCS into its payment system for fuel and retail purchases. The RCS credit card is accepted at over 3 800 merchants across 20 890 stores nationwide and is expanding daily. In addition, Engen as a fuel partner supports RCS’s objective of expanding the current network.

Last but not least, Engen’s virtual voucher system has provided it with many years of stable service, but the time has come to evolve the current system, built around an offline environment, says Bengu.

“Due to the increased stability of communications networks over the years, the industry has moved to an online model,” he continues. “The new virtual voucher system will cater for products like iTunes, electricity and more, while still providing us with world-class levels of stability!”
